Assessment Measures & Records
Assessment Measures:
Pre-Test - Written test. Students were shown their results.
Vocabulary - Presentation. I checked in with each group before they performed. Definitions were written down on quizlet so students could access them later, as well as written down in students' interactive notebooks for later reference. Students have a checklist for what their presentation should include.
"P.S. 81 The Bronx" - students discussed poem analysis questions in their groups, then we went over the answers as a class, and students wrote them down. Students identified figurative language, writing down their examples, and we corrected them as a class.
"Life Doesn't Frighten Me" - Students answered questions around the room, then we corrected them.
Poetry Walk - Students answered questions about various short poems. We went over the answers as a class and students made corrections.
Poetry Slam & Portfolios - Students read a poem they found or wrote and analyzed it. They turned in a portfolio of poems they found or wrote as examples for different elements of poetry. Students were given a rubric for their portfolios.
Summative assessments were used throughout, as I'd ask students to assess where they were at, and could converse with them to see the progress they were making and their thought processes. The objectives were also written out and said aloud, so the students knew what they were working towards. The final poetry analysis and portfolios will be sent home so parents can see their student's work. The students/parents can decide whether they'd like the student's poetry slam performance so the parents can watch it at home.
